Listen To This Man

Do you think he got too angry?

Do you agree with him? If not, can you argue reasonably? Then please, go to his web site:
Secondhand Smoke.

I'm posting this because he's actually feeling bad about responding too strongly in the later part of the above video; he worries it might be counter to the goal of saving folks' lives.

He's absolutely right.

Still, in a weird way, I think the whole debate is a testament to just how darn civilized Americans are. Perhaps David Duke couldn't get tenure at Princeton, but some of our universities do give tenure to some professors with unsavory beliefs. And the great part? We're not all killing one another over it. Singer advocates legalized infanticide (unsuccessfully, so far, thank God) and Smith criticizes the university for giving him a podium.

Smith was not at all out of line, and nothing he said was untrue. He got a little worked up toward the end, but no more so than most people who give speeches, and less so than some. (Think, for instance, of the Reverend Wright's sermons and Michael Savage's on-air rants.)

"Why, clearly, my good man, you must put your weapon down. This is most uncivilized."
"Ah, tut tut, good chap, I suppose so."

I love reading you, it makes the most amazing mental images pop into my mind!

I don't think he got too angry. I stopped by Pete Singer's website. He's got photos of himself that make him look like a pretty groovy guy. He'd look even better with an armband displaying a swastika. At least it would be more authentic to his views.
